Plating neodymium magnets is an important process to protect the magnet against corrosion. The substrate NdFeB (Neodymium, Iron, Boron) will oxidize quickly without a protective layer. Rubber may be great for grip strength and hanging things, but a colourful plastic magnet for your fridge or a nickel-plating finish may be the best options in different situations.
