Samarium Cobalt Magnets (SmCo)

Samarium Cobalt (SmCo) magnets are a type of rare-earth magnet made from an alloy of samarium and cobalt. They are known for their exceptional magnetic properties, including high magnetic strength and resistance to demagnetization. SmCo magnets are divided into two main series: SmCo_5 (1:5 series) and Sm_2Co_17 (2:17 series), which refer to the ratio of samarium to cobalt in the alloy. These magnets offer unique advantages in various applications, particularly where performance at high temperatures is critical, which is not possible for neodymium magnets.

1: 5 type and 2:17 type sintered samarium cobalt magnets are called as the first generation and second generation of rare earth permanent magnets. A big advantage of SmCo magnets is that they can operate at temperatures up to 300 degrees centigrade. Samarium cobalt magnets work well without coating.
